Fast Facts
Micah is doing well today. It's amazing how long this journey has been. Tomorrow is her due date, which means she has been here 115 days already. Can you believe that? She was 115 days early!
Micah is going back to 3 Mama feedings (not via tube) today. It has been a couple of weeks since she tried this, and it was too much without a quiet room to rest in. We are really hopeful that she will do well. This is a major use of her limited energy stores, but an obviously necessary goal.
Micah has been off of all steroid supplements for over two weeks now. She seems to be doing well. They will wait either 2 more weeks or until we are about to leave (if that came earlier) to test her ability to create steroids under chemical stress.
Micah weighs 6 pounds, 4.9 ounces. (She was 1 pound, 2 ounces at birth) She continues to grow slowly but steadily. Occasionally she drops an ounce or so, but there are so many factors in charting her weight, that the week to week picture is the only good estimate of how she is doing.
Olivia had her baby shower last Saturday. It went really well. We were so blessed by the gifts and presence of many of our family and friends. I spent the time with Micah, but got to see almost everyone when I dropped Olivia off.
I am still trying to hear the Lord for our future, but also trying not to miss the present.
God is still ever faithful.
As of Monday, we are back in the Ronald McDonald House during the days, which will be a huge blessing because Micah's 3 feed with Olivia are spread over more than 12 hours. We continue to be so grateful for our aunt and uncle who are watching Gracey and allowing us a retreat from the hospital area.
Being here has not gotten easier over time. In fact, it gets harder every week. We are ready to be home; ready to get done with the beeping, wires, tubes, doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, loud personalities, crying children, stress, forced feeding schedule, separation from Micah, spiritual conflict, and madly bright fluorescent lights, We are ready for some time alone, ready to be able to eat healthy meals, and ready to set our own schedule and goals for Micah. We have been truly blessed to be in this place for Micah's sake,... but we're done.
There are so many things we haven't had to deal with here, many of them quite common for micro-preemies like Micah. God has been gracious to us, allowing us to walk this journey together. We want our family, our lives, and Micah's future to reflect our gratitude to our loving and generous heavenly Father. We are excited about the future, though we don't know what it holds, because we are excited about the God who holds the future.
Several of you have been particularly helpful in keep the word spread about Micah so that others can pray for her. Thank you. I do know who some of you are, but I am sure there are more that haven't been pointed out to me. Just knowing you care enough to take on the task of status mediator has been such an encouragement. Some of you (again known and unknown) have made it fiscally possible for us to follow God's call to walk this journey together. Thank you for hearing the Lord and blessing us.
Almost 4 months ago I became "Papa". I'm still not used to that reality, but I like it a lot.
Thank you, Jesus.
